What to wear for worship at Abliene

You may wonder how you are expected to dress at a church you've never
visited before. Clothes are mentioned several times throughout the Bible.
However, it is important to note that appropriate dress in biblical times
would look very different from what we wear now. The Bible teaches that
we should not worry about what we will wear (Matthew 6:28-30) and that
God looks at our hearts, not our outward appearance (1 Timothy 2:9-10;
1 Peter 2:3-5). It also teaches that we are to dress modestly and unoffensively as not to bring attention to ourselves, because the focus of worship should be our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (John 4:24).

Those who worship at Abilene dress in a variety of styles. At any service,
you may see sneakers and heels, jeans and dresses, golf shirts and ties.
Our desire is that your focus be on worship, not on a dress code. To us,
dress is a personal matter of worship before God. One person may dress casually and rejoice that our gracious Lord accepts us as we are, while another may dress to reflect the majesty and wonder we have for Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. When a person dresses out of love and
adoration for his or her Lord, the choice of dress, be it casual or more
formal, is acceptable to God and to us.
